The Lowcountry canopy turning, seen from the air
The Roam

A side-scrolling studio, with you as the main character.

A session on the move, on foot or on e-scooters. We pick an area and live in its real, changing light, the kind a studio, or even meeting at one fixed spot, can never give you.

A studio is easier. You bring everything to you, you control every light, and nothing moves, including you. That is a still life. That is you, arranged as a still life. And a still life can only ever be so alive, because it is a representation of life. It is not life.

Movement is creativity. Movement is generation. So this is not a room. It is a roam.

We might set out for good foliage and pass, on the way, a weathered old storefront where the light and the frame fall just right. So we stop, and make a painting of you using its light, its frame, and its aging texture, all of it playing off your vibe. It is the alley nobody looks twice at that wraps you in a new depth. Busy streets and markets, dark wooded parks, eclectic shops, all of it the set.

I shoot it from the ground, the sides, from below, and from above with a drone, where the scene looks like nothing you would see standing on the street. Video and a hyperlapse of the whole adventure if you want them.

It is alive. The creativity grows with the movement. An adventure to find the most versions of you, in the most light, in the most places. You, the main character.

The Lowcountry

The set is already here.

The Roam runs on Charleston, North Charleston, Summerville, and Ladson. A few of the kinds of places we go, and the light that makes them.

Markets
The Charleston City Market, the Summerville farmers market. Chaotic, textured, alive.
Morning light breaking through the tent gaps.
The courts
Basketball and tennis around Park Circle and the Danny Jones complex. Clean, geometric, streetwear.
Hard noon sun to pop the color and throw fence-shadow across you.
Rooftops and transit
The airport garage roof, the transit hubs. Concrete, glass, leading lines.
Blue hour, with planes lifting off behind you.
Alleys and courtyards
Philadelphia Alley, Washington Square, Short Central. Wrought iron, brick, ivy.
Dappled mid-morning, or golden hour off the warm brick.
Waterfronts
Riverfront Park's grit, the piers and boat landings. Open, airy, dynamic.
Sunrise skipping off the water, or a silhouette against open sky.
The Battery
The seawall walk and White Point Garden. Cannons, old oaks, mansions at your back, the harbor in front.
Golden hour off the water, or storm light rolling in over the harbor.
Skate parks
The concrete bowls around Park Circle. Raw texture, motion, streetwear energy.
Hard side light to catch the grind and throw a long shadow.
Shipyards and industry
The old Navy Yard, the port cranes, the rail and container yards up in North Charleston. Steel, rust, scale.
Flat overcast on the metal, or blue hour as the sodium lamps kick on.
Junk yards and salvage
Auto graveyards and salvage lots. Rust, chrome, stacked color, chaos with a pattern hiding in it.
Harsh noon to blow out the chrome, or golden hour warming the rust.

And a few worth the drive, out past the city.

Cypress Gardens
Blackwater swamp near Goose Creek. Cypress knees, a flat-bottom boat, everything doubled in still black water.
Flat morning light, and you mirrored in the reflection.
Boneyard Beach
Botany Bay on Edisto. Whole dead oaks standing in the surf, salt-bleached to bone.
First light at low tide, the trees black against a pink sky.
Old Sheldon ruins
A roofless brick church from the 1700s. Open columns, live oaks, old graves.
Late sun raking through the columns, moss shadow on the brick.
Angel Oak
A four-hundred-year live oak on Johns Island, limbs the size of whole trees.
Soft overcast so the canopy reads, you small beneath it.
Magnolia Cemetery
On the Cooper River. Ancient oaks, still water, quiet gothic stone.
Golden hour through the moss, hushed and cinematic.

Between the cracks is where the perfect picture grows.

The Light

You are not picking a date. You are picking a light.

The weather is the lighting rig, and I cannot change the elements. So here is what the next seven days are actually bringing. Gold means I am open. Tap one and it goes straight on the form.

Reading the sky...
The day, as colour
Clear sky. Hard light, sharp shadows, and squinting. Good for bold. Brutal at noon.
Thin cloud. Softened, but it still has a direction. The best of both.
Overcast. The big softbox. No shadow at all, and every hour behaves the same.
Broken and storm. It comes and goes. We wait for the break, and the break is the picture.
Hard sunSharp shadows, high contrast, nothing soft about it.
The big softboxOvercast. Even, and gentle on a face.
Storm lightDrama nobody can build for you.
After rainThe street throws it back, and the ground becomes a second sky.
Golden hourLow and warm, everything glowing, gone in minutes.
FogThe whole world goes soft and close.

Pricing

You buy ground, not an hour.

In a studio you rent a room, and the room never changes, so the only thing they can sell you is time. Out here every few hundred yards is a new place, a new light, a different you. So the price is the ground we cover.

Request the date first. When I confirm it is yours, I send you the payment link. Flexible pay through Square.

The geometry of a morning, from above
Before we roam

Good to know.

What should I wear?+
Whatever feels like you. Bring one or two outfits and we can change along the way. Color and texture read beautifully against the Lowcountry, so do not play it too safe.
What about shoes?+
Wear comfy walking shoes. We cover ground on foot or on scooters to reach the good spots. Bring the nice pair too, we will shoot those for a few frames, then it is back to the sneakers.
How long is a session?+
Plan for about two hours. Roughly an hour of actual shooting, and the rest is moving, chasing the light, and playing with what the place gives us.
What if it rains?+
Moody skies are a gift, and we shoot into good weather. If it is a real washout, we reschedule, no charge.
Can I bring someone?+
Please do. A friend to hype you up or hold a jacket makes the whole thing better. It costs the same either way. You are paying for the ground we cover, not the head count.
Where do we meet?+
We pick an area together first. Then I send you the exact spot and where to park before the day.
How do I get my photos?+
You get a private online gallery of proofs. You pick your favorites, I edit those, and deliver the finished images to you.
Is there a deposit?+
You request the date first, I confirm it, then I send you the payment link. Flexible pay through Square is due on delivery. Everything runs through Square, with flexible pay if you want it.
Film, Ads & Content

Anything that needs to move.

Film and aerial. Brand video, ads, social, and skits. Scored and cut by me.

Lowcountry · the reel

Dolphins from above, the Yorktown at Patriots Point, and the downtown steeples, shot, scored, and cut as one continuous piece.

Through the Oaks · a walk with me

A drone follow through the Spanish moss and out over the marsh, the sound built around the quiet of the walk.

Holy City · Charleston from the air

The Custom House columns and downtown rooftops under a hard sunset, aerials edited to the falling light.

The Ride · red-clay trail, for the joy of it

A cinematic ride through the pines, filmed and cut for the pure fun of moving. Scenery, rhythm, and a little play.

Cold-Blooded · gators from the air

Alligators on the bank and gliding through the green, shot from above over Lowcountry water, cut and scored to the stillness.

Ravenel, night · a chill pass over the bridge

A slow night flight over the Arthur Ravenel bridge, the lit cables and the still water, just the calm of the air up there.

The Care Plan

Or keep it all running.

Most of what a brand needs is ongoing. I can keep it all running on a monthly plan, so it is not five things you are chasing.

About

I make people and things into bespoke art.

Bespoke means made for you. Not off a shelf, not a preset, not a formula. A piece, and the experience of making it, that exists only because you do, caught in the moment and never repeated.

Under all of it is one thing. I cannot look at a person, or a place, or a passing bit of light, without seeing what it rhymes with. A weathered wall becomes a frame. A stranger’s stance becomes the whole shot. An alley nobody looks at twice wraps you in a depth you did not know was there. That is the center. It fires across everything it touches and will not sit still, and it is why the work comes out made for you and never off a shelf.

Photographer, filmmaker, minister, writer, builder. Not five people. One mind pointed at different material, the same seeing coming out as a portrait, a film, a ceremony, a page, a thing built to order. For over ten years I have found the art in whoever, and whatever, is in front of me.

The Lowcountry, South Carolina. And wherever the light is better.

From a real body, which was there, proceed radiations which ultimately touch me, who am here. A sort of umbilical cord links the body of the photographed thing to my gaze.
